Experience traditional methods of hand-split white oak ribbed basketry typically used in Appalachia and apply these techniques to modern forms. Learn the ins and outs of selecting and processing a white oak tree for basket making and break down an entire white oak log together. Explore what constitutes modern form verses traditional form, culminating with each student designing and weaving their own basket using the white oak you split yourself as well as machined ash weavers.
